EPDM

EPDM (Ethylene Propylene Diene Monomer) is one of the most versatile and cost-effective rubbers, suitable for nearly all applications that do not require oil resistance. EPDM can be vulcanized with sulfur, peroxide, or resin and offers excellent weather resistance, water resistance, flexibility at low temperatures, good mechanical properties, and temperature resistance up to 150°C. However, it has poor resistance to oils, fuels, and flame.

The fully saturated polymer chains of EPDM naturally provide outstanding resistance to ozone and oxygen. It exhibits high color stability, and both black and colored compounds demonstrate excellent weathering resistance even without the use of antioxidants or antiozonants. As a non-polar hydrocarbon elastomer, it has excellent dielectric properties but lacks resistance to hydrocarbon oils. On the other hand, its low polarity and amorphous types with low ethylene content provide chemical resistance to polar substances and low-temperature flexibility, with a glass transition temperature as low as -60°C. Peroxide vulcanization enables operating temperatures up to 150°C. With appropriate formulations, the flame resistance of this non-flame-retardant polymer can be enhanced, and its oil absorption rate can be reduced with high filler loading.
